WINNER INTERVIEW - OAKS DAY

The UBET Festival of Racing at Morphettville was bigger than ever this year, with incredible Group 1 Racing action attracting thousands to the track to see not just Australia's best, but some of the world's best, with the inclusion of the world's best jockey João Moreira on the field.

Off the track, the competition was tough too, with some very stylish ladies and gentlemen turning out for the Fashion at The Races competition. The last metropolitan event of the season saw modern styles and a range of looks, including a few very on trend Autumn/Winter outfits. The competition was won by interstate visitor Natalie Zielke, who visited Morphettville from Queensland to be a part of the historic day of SA racing. We spoke to Natalie about her day at The Races.

Where is your winning outfit from?

I handmade my skirt myself, and the top was purchased overseas. My headwear was by Millinery Jill, shoes from Big W and accessories from Lovisa and Collette.

What brought you to The Races for Schweppes Oaks Day?

I was on holidays from Brisbane visiting family. I love attending the races back home and there were some girls from Adelaide that I have met and been speaking with online about fashions and the races and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to have a day out at the races here and meet them in person. I'm really glad we came as it was a great day out!

Have you entered fashions on the field events before in SA?

No I haven't! This was my first time attending the races in SA.

Describe your style...

I like to think of my style as classy and fun.  I generally try to make at least 1 piece of my outfit so I know it will be unique. It's a great feeling when you walk on stage in something that you have made and even better when others appreciate it as well!

If you could purchase your dream item?

Probably a Johanna Ortiz or Roksanda piece. They are both fun and classy at the same time!

What item of clothing could you not live without

I always love to wear fun statement earrings and a good clutch. I also have quite a large collection of heels... because you can never have too many of them!

Who are some of your favourite designers?

I absolutely LOVE Thurley!! I also love Asilio, Johanna Ortiz and Roksanda. On more of my spending level though, I do tend to look at ASOS a bit as well. But as I mentioned earlier, I also like to/ try to make some of my own outfits where possible

What do you love about the races

The biggest thing I love about the races and mainly the fashion side of things would have to be the people that I have met along the way. I have made some amazing friends through fashions on the field and I will always be grateful for that! I also love it because it is something my husband and I enjoy doing together. So we always end up having a great day out at the races! Dressing up is a big part of why I love it as well. When you work a 9-5 office job it is great to get a little bit creative with your outfit and let your hair down for the day and enjoy a few wines with your friends.

Natalie won $1000 cash, and has qualifed for the State Final. There are 5 chances left to enter, so make sure to be part of the competition. The next chance to qualify is at the Mount Gambier Gold Cup on Friday, May 12.
