One on One - 2016/17 Competition Menswear Winner

It was never going to be easy to set the bar as the first ever Fashion at The Races Menswear Winner, but Adelaide Events and Marketing Manager Ryan Turner did just that.

Winning the Qualifying Event at the Kangaroo Island Cup earlier this year, the judges agreed that Ryan's stylish combination of colours and accessories made him the deserving winner of the Best Menswear Winner for 2016/17.

As the Events and Marketing Manager for Published Arthouse, Ryan is no stranger to fashion. The stylish venue often sees high profile events, fashion shows and parties full of fashion, so it's important he's dressed the part. We caught up with Ryan has he had his shopping spree at M.J. Bale Adelaide as the prize for the Best Menswear Winner.

You were the Qualifying Winner of the Kangaroo Island Cup eralier this year; was that your first time at the Cup?

Yes it was my first time there and I loved it! The weather was good, and the whole day was great. I didn't win on any races but I did win one thing!

Are you a regular racegoer?

I am and I do enjoy it; it's a great family outing so we love to go.

How did you go about styling your winning outfit?

I took a lot of ideas over to KI, as I didn't know what the weather would be, and it ended up being a mismatch of a few ideas and colours. Not having been to KI before I didn't know what to expect, so I just had a bit of fun with it.

You had a Summer style, which generally doesn't mean a full suit. Are you a fan of the chino/jacket combo?

Yes I'm a big fan - in a work environment and in a casual environment it works very well. I still enjoy putting a suit on though, I have the advantage in my job of wearing a suit occasionally so it's nice to dapper up.

Who was your outfit by?

The pants were French Connection, Jacket from Zara,  shirt from M.J. Bale, and my tie was from online.

What are your style tips for The Races?

I like a pocket square and a bit of floral. I would say to add a bit of accessory and style, mix it up a bit, but not too over the top.

KI Cup 2

Are you looking to head to some Spring Racing events?

Yes I will definitely head to Morphettville, and next year I'm hoping to have my first Melbourne Cup Day in Melbourne. It's been something I've loked forward to for many years.

Have you done any other SA events?

Yes I've been to Oakbank before, and KI, and had a great time.

What's your favourite part about the races?

Being involved in the atmosphere, watching the races, betting, catching up with frineds and being part of the excitement of the day.

What are you looking to get here at M.J. Bale?

My next suit I think! I've got a few colours at home so I like to mix it up a bit. Having an arthouse venue as my work I like to stand out from the crowd a bit, so I'm looking for that next standout piece.
