5 minutes with the winner - Melbourne Cup

It was Australia's biggest race day, and Melbourne Cup Day at Morphettville was bursting with atmosphere on the day we celebrate the race that stops the nation.

With thousands descending on Morphettville for a day of racing, trackside dining and fashion, it was no surprise that there were plenty of entrants vying for the title of the day's best dressed.

Hosted by Channel 7 presenters and Fashion at The Races Ambassadors Amelia Mulcahy and Theo Doropoulos, the competition was fierce.

Judged by Michelle Greene (TRSA Industry Marketing Manager), Siham Elmawey (Head Designer of CMEO Collective) and Lauren Dilena (Westfield Senior Stylist), it was no easy decision, by Millicent's Rose Ampt was crowned the winner.

Winning the men's category was Robbie Lippett, who reflected the current linen and plaid trends worn by stylish gentlemen around the country.

Rose Ampt was the ultimate winner of the day, matching a bright Asos dress with millinery she created herself! As a Races regular down on the Limestone Coast, we were excited to find out more about Rose.

Melbourne Cup Winners 2

I started coming to The Races:about 5 years ago. Living in a country town, there aren't many opportunities to dress up so the local Millicent Cup sounded like a great day out! I was in awe seeing all the amazing millinery; from there I pursued courses in making my own pieces.

I couldn't do a day trackside without: unique millinery.

The last time I entered Fashions on the Field: was the Mount Gambier Cup, May 2017. This is one of my favourite races as so many locals take the day off work and it's such a great social occasion!

My wardrobe is: full of colour! My racewear items take up a grand portion, and I've built display shelves for my favourite shoes in the main bedroom.

The most embarrassing thing I've ever worn is: there's a couple outfits I had sewn myself when I first started entering Fashion at the Races. I definitely wouldn't wear them now, but it's all a learning experience i suppose!

My favourite thing I own is: my colourful and extensive shoe collection.

What people might not know about me: I'm a keen home renovater, tackling everything myself including tiling and wallpaper

Weekends look like: a big breakfast with delicious coffee is a must! Then I can tackle the day, be it socialising, renovating, or working on the family free-range farm.

I love to indulge in: Mexican food

My kind of day out is: anywhere outdoors with plenty of sunshine, delicious food and my husband Steve!

On my bucket list I want to: learn a second language

I wish I could have a glass of bubbles with: Jim Carrey

This year I am looking forward to: relaxing and socialising a bit more now we aren't planning a wedding!

I love The Races because: it's just such a great excuse to get dressed up and catch up with everyone.

You can qualify like Rose at the next Fashion at The Races qualifying event, the Mount Gambier Gold Cup on the 1st of December (moved from May 2018). For more info and to book head to The Races SA Website.
