Meet Naracoorte Cup winner - Brooke Walter

Meet, Brooke Walter. She was sashed with the 2019 Naracoorte Cup Best Dressed Womenswear title last sunday. We spent some time with Brooke after her win to get to know her (and her racing style) a little more.

Tell us about your winning outfit. What were you wearing?

Dress: Only One Ashley

Millinery: Felicity Northeast

Shoes: Steve Madden

Bag: Olga Berg

What process did you go through to plan and choose this ensemble?

I purchased the dress off the Millinery and Racewear Facebook page and got the millinery made in a colour and style to match the dress. I paired the outfit with rose gold accessories.

Where did your love for racing fashion begin?

I have always been inspired by other racegoers and more recently, follow style icons/celebrities on Instagram for inspiration.

What was your first racing event and how has your style evolved since?

Flemington – Stakes Day. My style is always evolving and changing as fashion trends come and go.

Who are your racewear style icons?

Lana Wilkinson.

What are your favourite labels for racewear?

I love supporting Australian designers and my favourite designers are Toni Maticevski, Alex Perry and Kate Watts (Only One Ashley).

Tell us about your makeup. What look did you choose and what key products did you use?

I usually go for a natural look with a pop of colour, for this outfit the pop of colour came out in my lips (Napoleon Perdis lipliner) to match the colour in my dress and hat.

What products do you always take in your bag for a day at the races?

Band aids and lipliner/lipstick.

How did you choose a hairstyle? What styling process did your locks go through?

Classic bun with my natural hair which can be tricky to manage - That’s where a lot of hairspray comes in handy.

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic with a modern twist.

How do you spend your time when you’re not at racing events?

I enjoy spending time at home with my animals (dogs and chickens) and being at work.

Why should everyone book in a day at the races this year?

It’s a great opportunity to get dressed up, watch the horses, catch up with friends and meet new people.

What is your favourite race day to go to and why?

Morphettville St Pats Day. There are always creative outfits to spot and hopefully the luck of the Irish when betting.

What is the biggest mistake women make when dressing for a racing carnival?

Not wearing comfortable shoes.

What is your style advice for first-time racegoers?

I would encourage them to wear wedges or small heels because there’s lots of grass.
